Why is my Printer not Printing Anything?

June 27, 2022 By Admin

One of the biggest triggers for frustration and for tempers to flare up in many offices is when a printer malfunctions. Truly, it is so irksome when you are in the middle of your task and you need documents urgently but your printer is not cooperating. No matter how many times you try, nothing comes out.

Don’t fret, you might just be able to find the cause and a possible solution here.

  1. Improper alignment of paper. A prompt will usually turn up on your computer if this is the issue. However, if you are printing directly on your printer, the prompt may not show. The best thing to do is to check the alignment of the paper on the paper tray. Make sure that the sensors are properly picking up the dimensions of the paper so that it can detect the size properly.
  2. Pseudo paper jam. This is such a troublesome issue; it happens when your printer is reporting a paper jam but there is no blockage or jam anywhere. What you can do in this situation is to check your printer first to make sure that there is no debris that may be blocking the paper path. Check for any staples, clips of torn pieces of paper that may have been lodged into the rollers. If there are none, try fanning out your paper. This is useful in order to loosen any pieces that have stuck to each other or in order to reduce the friction between the pages. You can also try lessening the number of papers in your paper tray. For ease of transaction, a good number would be around a hundred sheets so that the input rollers will not be overwhelmed by the volume of papers on the tray. For smaller printers, around twenty sheets would be a good amount to ensure that your printer can handle it.
  3. Unstable connection. A weak connection between your printer and computer can definitely cause an issue in your printing. This can occur whether you are connected via wifi or even when you are connected via cable. If you are connected via wifi, try doing a reset so that you can have a stronger signal. You can also try turning off other devices and use the connection exclusively so that you will not be sharing bandwidth. If this does not work, you can try the manual approach and connect via cable. If you are already connected via cable, check if your cable or any of the ports are damaged. This may hamper the ability of the computer to communicate with the printer.
  4. Clogged printhead. If your printer has been sitting on your desk for some time and it is unused, check if the ink is still in a good condition or if the printer heads are still able to dispense ink. There are instances when the nozzles can get clogged by ink that has hardened or by accumulated dust. It is best to try and perform a test print after you clean your printer to ensure that everything is in order.
  5. Check if you have the right setting. If you are in an office with multiple printers or if you are usually switching printers, the failure to print may be because you are sending the command to the wrong printer. Make sure that you are printing with the right printer so that the command can be properly received and interpreted by the printer.
  6. Check the ink level. The printer may not be able to print your document if one of its ink cartridges is empty. Do a check on the level of ink for your printer to ensure that all cartridges have the proper amount of ink in them.
